I checked the weather the night before, so I had an inkling of what I was waking up to, but I mean come on! Snow!...Yesterday I didn't even have to wear a coat it was that nice out! I should have known something would happen too because yesterday Charlie had his grooming appointment. We have the WORST luck with those appointments. They always fall on days it's raining or snowing or some other horrific weather event has happened, so he ends up smelling like wet dog with muddy paws again. So it would only make sense right after his appointment it would start snowing...and not just like flurries, like oh hey cute flurries that will be gone in an hour, like full blown SNOW.
I woke up and glanced out the window, immediately bolting straight up in bed. OH MY GOSH! The streets were covered. The cars were covered. The trees, grass, everything was covered. A woman walking to her car had her hood pulled up tight around her face, and you could see the snow clinging to her hair as the wind whipped it up and around her face. I instinctively shivered just watching her walk to the car. Glancing at the clock, I realized it was still early. Early enough that Charlie might not want to go out yet, so maybe I could avoid the weather for a bit longer.
Just as I'd thought, as I tiptoed into the living room, he was awake because he'd heard me get up, but the most he'd done was open his eyes. He didn't make any move to get up off the couch and I made no move to make him. I made myself a glass of hot tea and set it down on the coffee table. I could hear the snow coming down hard outside and it made me realize, maybe it wasn't just snow...was it hailing outside? They had said there was a chance that would happen. I walked back over to the window to look outside and watched for a few more minutes. Was it possible the snow had piled up even more in the few minutes since I'd last looked? I thought back over all the things I'd wanted to get done today outside.
I grabbed my phone to check an updated weather report, clicking hourly. I started scrolling through, starting with 8am...snow. 9am...snow...I kept scrolling through the rest of the day. The only gaps in the whole day that said there would be no snow were 10am and 1pm. This. Was. Not. Good. As I sat staring out the window, I thought of my different options: I could go about my day as usual, spending the day outside in this weather or I could scratch the whole day and stay cooped up in the apartment... relaxed, with blankets, and books, and tea...that sounded very tempting.
I walked back to my tea and the couch, deciding to decide later.
